Stella Inez Lane

Stella Inez Lane, 88, of Celeste passed away in the early evening hours of Nov. 5, 2009, at Sunny Springs Nursing Home in Sulphur Springs.

She was born June 13, 1921, in Ettrick, Va., to Arthur and Mary Lona Belcher Marable; they preceded her in death. On March 19, 1942, Stella married David Robert Lane in Yuma Ariz. Together they had three children and cared for their growing family until his death in 1976. Mrs. Lane loved people. She acted as Mom to several military men under her husband’s command during World War II. She earned the nickname “Ace,” which was later revised by her grandchildren to “Mama Ace.” She was proud to have worked as a cashier hostess for Holiday Inn hotel until she was 70 years old. She was also a member of Kingston Baptist Church.

Surviving are one daughter, Pat Cummings and husband Gene of Celeste; two sons, Michael Lane and wife Lue of Caddo Mills, and Bruce Lane and Jonell of Greenville; grandchildren Larry Cummings, Karen and James Howard, Stella and Scott Willeford, David and Angel Cummings, Shorty and Tammy Cummings, Tammy Booker, Mike Roberts, Lisa Lane, Paula Lane and Penny Lugo; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kandice, Rod, James Jr., Macie, Bradley, Zach, Lauren, Tyler, Megan, Kylie, Ramsey, Morgan, Michael, Nathan, Jefferey, Dustin, Caleb, Brynn, Caleigh, Chase, Bryce, Chelsea, Monica, Ashley, Cody, Chris, and Christy; great-great-grandchildren Jordan, Peyton, and Olivia; and her dog and best friend, Sunshine.

Services for Mrs. Lane will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Peters Funeral Home chapel with Chaplain Richard Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery with Larry Cummings, Shorty Cummings, David Cummings, Matthew White, Rod Bowman, and Bradley Mayrell serving as pallbearers and Scott Willeford, James Howard, Bryce Kieffer, Zach Willeford, Tyler Willeford, and James Howard Jr. serving as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
