Alva Lorenzo “Trig” Ward, 84, of Greenville died July 5, 2009. Funeral services are scheduled a 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 3809 Lee in Greenville.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 3, 1924, in the Center Point Community of Hunt County, he was the son of Abe Lorenzo and Elzena Ward. He acquired the name “Trig” as a small child. He attended St. Paul School in Neylandville and later attended Jarvis Christian College. He confessed Christ at an early age and became a member of Center Point Christian Church where he served as elder and became a minister of music.
After leaving college he worked as a rancher on the Burnett Ranch for 30 years. During this time he met and married Clarece Porter. When the ranch closed he worked for Jackson Furniture Manufacturers for six years. The couple later divorced, and in 1981 he married Kathy Huskey. As the economy started to decline and the furniture plant closed, he was then employed by E-Systems, then Raytheon; and he decided to retire in 1990. While he held down all these jobs, he was teaching music in his home and in other locations. At times the student count was more than 110 students at one time. Trig continued to teach music as his health failed.
His parents, one brother, one sister, one son and his first wife preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories his second wife; five children, Oggie Jean James (Willie) of Macon, Ga., Donald Ward (Toni) of Greenville, Rosslyn Hudson of Oklahoma City, Okla., Byron Price (Ulla) of Los Angeles, Calif., James Ward (Sherry) of Greenville; Godson Joe Rutherford (Virginia); special children Supt. Roy Price, Berta McSwain, Sue Bennett, Diane Price and Dwaine Price; two brothers, Floyd Ward (Maurine) and Dennis Ward, all of Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Hazel Hamm and Sarah Washington (Ellis) of Greenville; two brothers-in-law, Vic Henson of Carrollton and Mike Huskey of Houston; two sisters-in-law, Pearline Kemp of Guthrie, Okla., and Jane Sims of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.
