Billie Blakely Brown
Mrs. Billie Blakely Brown, 81, a Greenville resident for more than 46 years, passed away July 1, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in the Coker-Mathews Funeral Home chapel.
Mrs. Brown's cremated remains will be spread at Windy Point over the Slumgullion Pass near Creede, Colo., per her wishes.
Born Feb. 5, 1928, in Davidson, Okla., she was the daughter of Charles Redd and Jimmie Avon Nunn Blakely. She attended high school in Ruston, La., and Norman, Okla., and was a scholar at Pepperdine University in California. On April 23, 1950, she married William E. “Bill” Brown Jr. in Monroe, La. She was a dental assistant, a licensed real estate agent, and taught private piano lessons. A lover of music, art, and fashion, Mrs. Brown was involved in many organizations as a member and volunteer. She belonged to the Aesthetics Club for more than 50 years, was a longtime member of the Comet Club, active in the Hunt County Republican Party for many years, served as secretary of the Empress Chinchilla Breeders Club for more than 15 years, was an active leader of the Brownies and Girl Scouts Association; member of the local Arts Club, and served on the Hunt County Fair Board.
Her survivors include her husband of Greenville; daughter Lesalie Brown of Celina; two grandchildren, Chelsen and Chase Hall of Celina; two sisters, Avon Lee Lowe of California and Ryta Taichman of Louisiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lois Elizabeth Blakely.
The family request memorials be made to the American Heart Association.
