Melissa Myer is the finalist for the first week of competition in the 2009 W. Walworth Library / Herald-Banner amateur photography competition with her composition entitled “Staring Contest.” The photo was taken of two pelicans on the beach in Newcastle, Australia. Entries in both the Adult (18 and older) and Junior (under 18) categories will be accepted at the Herald-Banner office until Aug. 21. On Sept. 1 the top eight finalists in each category will be put on display at W. Walworth Library for voting by the public on a final winner. Winners will be announced on Sept. 21 and the photos will remain on display until Sept. 30
