One ‘Bra-vissimo’ event

GREENVILLE Some of the most creative women in Hunt County will show their talents as they decorate lingerie to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness as part of the first “Bras for the Cause”event sponsored by Calico Cat and Blue Armadillo Winery.

The creations will be displayed during an evening of fun on Thursday, October 22\when the public is invited to come and vote for their favorites.

“This is the start of what I hope will become a very popular annual event,” said Janeen Cunningham, owner of Calico Cat. “Anyone who wants to get involved and enter a decorated bra is welcome. I expect them to be made of all sorts of materials and decorated in many different themes, but all will be ‘G’rated.”

Bras can be embellished with paint, fabric, beads, jewels, feathers, or anything else that inspires the artist, according to Cunning-ham.

“We hope everyone will give their creations a clever title! That’s going to be part of the fun — just seeing everyoneís take on the subject,” she added.

Spectators will cast a ballot for their favorite creation by purchasing tickets for $1 each. The artists raising the most money through the voting will win a prize basket furnished by the sponsors.

All bras will be on display at Uptown Forum and the Blue Armadillo Winery beginning at 6:30 p.m. on October 22.

Light refreshments will be served. Following the voting, winners will be announced at the Blue Armadillo Winery.

“We’re excited to be a part of this event, too,” said Friendlee, owner of the Blue Armadillo. “We’ll have live music for everyone to enjoy and a portion of our sales will be donated to the cause as well.”

Although the event is promoting women’s health, it is by no means a “girls only” event, according to Cunningham.

“I think this will be something that both men and women will enjoy. I expect the creations to be humorous, artistic, entertaining and more. Breast cancer is a disease that strikes women but affects the whole family.”

Anyone interested in entering a bra is asked to contact Cunningham at 903-454-1522 by Monday, October 19. Bras are not due until Thursday by noon, said Cunningham.

“But I’d like to know of all participants so I can arrange to have displays ready for each one,” she said. “This is going to be a memorable evening!”
