OmniSYS schedules groundbreaking

GREENVILLE Business and economic development officials plan to grab some shovels and hard hats this week to celebrate the start of construction on an expanded headquarters for a local healthcare technology firm.

OmniSYS Incorporated has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for its future home in the Greenville Business Airpark.

OmniSYS has announced it will be relocating to a new 20,000 square foot office building in the Airpark, directly in front of the headquarters of the Texas Book Company. Plans are to have the new building ready for occupancy by June 1, 2006.

OmniSYS has 65 employees in their current office on Wesley Street in Greenville and expects to add at least 10 employees within a year of completion of the new building and an additional 10 to 20 jobs at the new location during the next five years.

Last month, both the Greenville City Council and Hunt County Commissioners Court voted to approve an abatement on property taxes for the site and the Council approved the creation of a reinvestment zone for where the new headquarters will be built.

Under a reinvestment zone, the property taxes would be abated, with the money designated toward paying for improvements in the zone.
