New PJC campus drawing closer

By Brad Kellar

The start of construction on a new and expanded Greenville campus for Paris Junior College is drawing closer, with two major agreements regarding the project being reached last week.

On Monday, the Paris Junior College (PJC) Board of Regents approved the issuance and sale of $6 million in revenue bonds to complete the financing of the campus next to Greenville High School.

The sale of the bonds brought the total for the project to $13.5 million.

"This will complete the financing for the Greenville project," PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin told the board, adding construction will begin as soon as weather permits.

Tuesday, the Greenville City Council approved an interlocal agreement with PJC for the construction and maintenance of a sewer main, private road and bridge, and a storm water detention facility to serve the campus. Under the agreement, the city will provide PJC with the right and privilege to use city-owned land and a portion of the city's right-of-way for the endeavor.

PJC will be responsible for building the line and will maintain it and an associated access drive until a new line along the planned Monty Stratton Boulevard is completed.
